Triangle (Trianguli)
Triangulum, the Triangle, is a small but ancient northern constellation, recognized since Babylonian times for its obvious triangular shape. Despite its modest size, Triangulum contains M33, the Triangulum Galaxy, the third-largest member of our Local Group of galaxies and the most distant object visible to the naked eye under exceptional conditions.
📜 Mitologia
Triangulum was known to ancient civilizations simply for its geometric shape. The Greeks called it 'Deltoton' after its resemblance to their letter delta (Δ). Some associated it with the Nile Delta of Egypt or with the island of Sicily, which has a triangular shape. In other traditions, it represented the delta-shaped birthplace of Zeus on Mount Olympus. Despite its geometric name, the constellation was recognized as distinct since ancient times.
