Cassiopeia (Cassiopeiae)
Cassiopeia is instantly recognizable by its distinctive W or M shape (depending on its orientation), making it one of the easiest constellations to identify in the northern sky. As a circumpolar constellation for most northern latitudes, it's visible year-round and serves as an excellent guide for finding other celestial objects. The Milky Way passes through Cassiopeia, providing a rich field of stars and deep-sky objects.
📜 Mitología
Cassiopeia was the vain queen of Ethiopia, wife of King Cepheus and mother of Princess Andromeda. Her fatal flaw was vanity - she boasted that she and her daughter were more beautiful than the Nereids, the sea nymphs. This angered Poseidon, who sent a flood and the sea monster Cetus to ravage the kingdom. To appease the gods, Andromeda was chained to a rock as a sacrifice. Cassiopeia was placed in the sky on her throne, condemned to circle the celestial pole eternally, spending half her time hanging upside down - a humiliating position for the proud queen.
